10 Big Mistakes Network Marketers Make

Mistake #1: Elevating the Prospect above Yourself.
Don't talk to prospects as if their time is more valuable than your time. You're the one offering them an opportunity that has the potential to change their life. You're the one who will support, coach and mentor them, if they're right for your team. You should actually interview the prospect to assess if they have the right profile for Multi Level Marketing. One of the wonderful aspects of network marketing is that you can choose who you work with, so choose wisely because you'll be spending a lot of time with those who you personally sponsor.
Mistake #2: Convincing rather than Attracting.
It's a total waste of time trying to convince someone to join your business. If you sign a prospect up who is not ready mentally, they will fail and you've just wasted your time and theirs. Your job is to present the facts about your company, products and opportunity and what it takes to succeed in Multi Level Marketing. Even if you think they may be good in Multi Level Marketing you actually don't know until they have been in the business for a while. Only then will you discover if they are indeed coachable and if they have what it takes to persist until they succeed. You must maintain posture when presenting the opportunity. You have more to offer the prospect than they have to offer you. This is the way you will attract top quality people.
Mistake #3: Talking too much.
This ties in with #2 and if you share too much information initially, you will seem desperate and may in fact overwhelm your prospect. It's far more important to focus on being sincere and also to speak with enthusiasm and passion about the opportunity you're offering. You want to leave the prospect keen to discover more about what you're offering.
Mistake #4: Making the business sound too easy.
Multi Level Marketing, like any other worthwhile business, needs time and dedication before the big rewards are realised. It's only when effective duplication takes place that the business becomes easier. You have to first become an effective leader and coach so that you can teach others to become effective leaders and coaches. If you make the business sound too easy you will end up attracting the wrong caliber people. You want to partner with hard working, committed people who will stay the course and grow into awesome leaders in your organisation. This is when you'll benefit from this amazing concept of leverage.
Mistake #5: Trying to make people comfortable
Don't handle the people in your team with 'kid gloves'. Of course you need to be respectful, caring and kind - you are after all their coach and mentor, but don't keep the truth from them either with respect to what it takes to succeed. If they say "I can't attend the training session because I have other plans" then your job is to tell them that they need to attend the training if they're serious about succeeding in the business. Tell them to cancel or change their other plans.
Mistake #6: Not using upline support
Your upline has your best interests at heart and is there to support you as you build your business. Using your upline when presenting the opportunity adds tremendous third party validation and is very effective. Your prospect also then sees how you work as a team in this business. It's also imperative to use your upline, where possible, to train your new business partners, especially while you're still new in the business.
Mistake #7: Sending negatives down
Every Multi Level Marketing company has challenges now and then, so when a product line is out of stock for example, don't moan about this to your downline. If you're having a bad day and feel frustrated don't share this with your downline. Talk to your upline if you need to. Always send encouragement and optimism downline. Always be seen as a problem solver and speak well of the company, the management team and the industry as a whole.
Mistake #8: Telling without asking
When prospecting it's very effective to ask the prospect to tell you about themselves first. This gives you insight into what 'makes them tick' and what their hot buttons are. This means you discover what their needs are and you can adapt your presentation around that. Asking about them also shows that you're a caring person and are interested in them. Showing a prospect how your opportunity could pay for their child's university education for example will be far more effective than telling them how much the top leaders in the company make.
Mistake #9: Looking for needers rather than leaders.
It's common for new Multi Level Marketers to approach others they know who are struggling financially or even emotionally. Let's face it, this business offers a definite way out of poverty and can also be very uplifting for people who are down in the dumps emotionally because they will meet many positive, upbeat people in the team. Now it's not wrong to approach people in need but you should definitely be going after leaders - people who are go getters, optimistic and dynamic. That's if you want to build a big, strong team quickly that is.
Mistake #10: Not promoting events.
Momentum is created and given a big boost at training and also corporate events. Be sure to promote these events vigorously because the more people you can pack into these events the more excitement is created. When your downline team see hundreds and even thousands of other people at these events, they are not only impressed but they also see the bigger picture and are filled with a feeling of pride to be part of this great company.
